After coming back from Vancouver Island we checked in to the hotel, which served as a base-camp for all the visitors of the wedding of Natalie and Bruce, an old school friend of Annika. The wedding was the initial motivation for the trip, so it was really nice to spend some time with Bruce and his friends every day we were there. And the resort hotel was fantastic. The suite we were staying in was actually bigger than our apartment back in the days in Leppävaara :)As this was our second visit to Vancouver, we didn’t feel pressured to do all the sight-seeing, but could enjoy the nice parts of town instead.
I think the first thing you’ll notice planning a trip to Vancouver Island is, “wow, that’s bigger than I thought”. And you will think the same thing when you drive on the highway from Victoria to the north. Some Canadians told us that it’s a bit funny that the Island got the highway they are longing for on the mainland. But the first discovery on the island was: “wow, this is a lot of people going to the north” :) But here’s how we started.
This last weekend of July I’ve had my first experience with the famous Finnish cottage-life - and I loved it. Two days and just nature, reading and relaxing. As a welcome Daniel took me by boat the 30 km way from Joensuu to the cottage. The bit of rain on the way did not matter at all, and when we arrived the sauna was already heated and ready to use. Afterwards we finished the day with a good diner and they let me be part of the family life and I felt really welcome.
